For those of you that do not know, my husband was born in Puerto Rico and spent his childhood there, this being said it is not something I usually ever think about. Although it is rare I think about it, there are times that I say something and have to define the word because he does not know what it means, I suppose this happens when English is not the language you grew up speaking.
Last night we were talking and I said up-chuck and laughed (I do not remember the context), he asked what it meant and I tried to think of other words he may not know that also mean throw up without actually say it so he would have to guess. So, "toss you cookies" was then added. Carlos' guess on definition of that phrase cracked me up. -Is it breasts? Like when a woman is wearing a low cut shirt you would say "hey be modest, don't toss your cookies!" - Who comes up with this stuff?
So this reminded me of another time we have such an issue about a year ago. Carlos heard someone say something about consummating a marriage. On the way home he asked what consummate means, I explained, to which his response was, "I want to be constipated." After I finished laughing I pointed out that might not be the word he meant to use.
Disclaimer: I love you Carlos! I know these things could happen to anyone, you don't have to lecture me.
